Theday’s programme
started off withpowerful
performances by adrama
group named ‘Spirit of Africa”
the youthful men andwomen
shook their bodies to the
amazement of participants
as if possessedby the spirit
of that legendary goat that
tasted the first coffeeberry in
Ethiopia.
The themeof this daywas
pinned on the fact that
over thepast years, the
Government of Uganda has
maintained themomentum of
improving the incomes and
livelihood of thepeople of
Uganda througha number of
initiatives.
In theagricultural sector,
theGovernment adopted
theCommodityApproach
that prioritizedcoffeeas one
of thecashcropswhose
production andproductivity
is to enhance. In2015, the
Government revised its
earlier targets of planting
300million coffee trees and
reachingexport of at least
4.5millionbags by 2018 to
producing 20million 60-kg
bags of coffeeby 2020and
thus theVision 2020. Uganda
CoffeeDevelopment Authority
(UCDA) incollaborationwith
OperationWealthCreation
(OWC), Local Governments
(LGs), PrimeMinister’s
DeliveryUnit (PMDU) and
thePrivateSector are
spearheading this drive.
A stakeholder’s consultation
took place toexplore
opportunities for scaling up
national coffeeoutput. The
target from3 to 20million 60-
kgbags by 2020 (Understand
the issues around the
coffee output, scaleup and
appreciate the associated
resourcequantum andmix
for the scale up) and also
familiarize the stakeholders
with theBig Fast Results
Methodology as away of
achieving thegoals.
With this inmind coffee
enthusiasts fromabroad
spectrumhonored the
invitationand converged as St
Lawrence each armed to offer
ideas how fast, better and
realisticallyUgandacould
walk the talk.

another brilliant angle to look
at success of this event. The

with clear skies as if
to signal how the rest
of thecelebrationswould
go. Serviceproviders and
exhibitorswere the first ones
at the venueby dawn, setting
up tents anddesignating
spots of theday’s activities.
By 9 am as the invitedguests
