he 5th Uganda Coffee Day at was held at Maya Coffee
Village in Wakiso District on 2nd October 2014 under
the theme ““YOUTHS INCOFFEE: “Honouring the Past;
reasuring thePresent; Shaping the Future.”
Thegenesisof the theme is from thegrowingconcern thatyoung
peoplehavebecomedisenchantedwithagricultureat largeand
therefore the need to re-echo the industry appeal to the youths
to engagemore in coffee at all levels of the coffee value chain.
The5thUgandaCoffeeDayattracted337participantswith231
males and 106 femaleswhich translate to an increase of 5% in
females andmajority of the participantswere youthwhichwas
in linewith the theme for the day.
The youth programs at Maya coffee village havemoved strides
in attracting youth to take part in the different activities across
the valuechainhenceusing thecoffeeday as aplatform for not
only speaking to the youth but also encouraging stakeholders
in thecoffee industry to takekeen interest in youthprogramsas
it has been a prominent topic in recent times.
At the event, the participants were welcomed by Mr. Ronald
Buule, the host and chairperson, Nsangi Coffee Farmers
Association as the youths from various regions listened to
different speakers sharing their knowledge and passion about
coffee.
