NIYIBIGIRA
I
would like to take this
opportunity to congratulate
the stakeholders in
the coffee industry upon
successful completion of the
2015/16coffee season. Let
me also thankUCFmembers
for thewarmwelcome and
support when I joinedUCDA
at theend of theCoffeeYear.
The year had a number of
challenges arisingmainly
from the longdry spells that
partly contributed to low
survival rate of thecoffee

total of 3.315million60-kilo
bags of coffeewereexported

hand, the valueof coffee
exports droppedby 20% from
US$ 410million in theCY
2014/15 toUS$327million in
theCY 2015/16.
InAugust 2015, His
Excellency, thePresident
of theRepublicof Uganda,
issued adirective to increase
production from the current
4million60-kgbags to 20
million60-kgbags by 2020.

2020.
During the year, theprinciples
for the revisionof the coffee

TopPolicyManagement of
theMinistry of Agriculture,
Animal Industry&Fisheries
(MAAIF). Once theprinciples
are approvedbyCabinet, the
